A portable shower is a small motor — either a submersible or an in-line pump — that pulls water from whatever container you provide (a bucket, a jug, a lake) and pushes it through a hose to a handheld head, powered by a rechargeable battery instead of gravity. That's a meaningfully more reliable design than the gravity bags that just slow to a drip once the water level drops.

What matters when comparing them: real pump pressure and how long it holds up on a full charge, which isn't the same as flow rate through a wide-open hose; whether the kit includes a container or you're supplying your own; and total packed weight if it's going in a backpack. One claim worth checking closely — most of these units don't heat water, they just move it, so any "warm shower" language usually just means the water started out warm.
