A filtered shower head works by routing water through a replaceable cartridge — usually a KDF or activated-carbon media — before it reaches the spray plate, and chlorine reduction through that kind of filter media is well-understood, verifiable chemistry rather than a marketing stretch. That's the one claim in this category that generally holds up on its own.

Claims layered on top of it — fluoride removal, microplastic filtration, or specific skin-and-hair benefits — are usually the manufacturer's own framing without independent lab results attached, so treat those as plausible rather than proven. The other thing worth budgeting for: the cartridge is a consumable that needs periodic replacement, not a one-time cost, and hard water shortens its usable life faster than the box copy usually implies.
